In first place is Bisate Lodge in Rwanda. Located on the edge of Volcanoes National Park, Bisate Lodge has six elegant and comfortable villas, each overlooking the surrounding villages, forests and misty mountain peaks. The main activity is hiking in the national park to see mountain gorillas, but there are also opportunities to see golden monkeys, hike in the mountains, or visit the grave of famous primatologist Dian Fossey.
In 2nd place, Gibb’s Farm is “the most unique lodge in East Africa,” according to one reader. Overlooking Tanzania’s Ngorongoro Crater, a protected area known for its incredible density of wildlife, this 17-cottage property offers activities around its coffee plantation and gardens, as well as bush walks from the property and excursions into the crater.
In 3rd place is One&Only Nyungwe House located in southwestern Rwanda, just south of Lake Kivu, on the border with Burundi. The establishment is located amidst the rich tea plantations of Gisakura, bordering the iconic Nyungwe National Park. The park covers approximately 1,020 square kilometers of rainforest, bamboo, grasslands, swamps, and bogs, and is one of the last remaining tropical mountain forest habitats on the planet.
Ranking 4th is The Ngorongoro Crater Lodge by &Beyond in Tanzania, near the Ngorongoro Crater. Spread across three camps, 30 suites with banana leaf ceilings and grass roofs offer an intimate and exclusive experience. Each camp has its own living and dining rooms, with private butlers who provide warm, personalized service.
In fifth place is Angama Mara, inspired by the Swahili word for “suspended in the air.” Located above the Great African Rift Valley, the lodge overlooks Kenya’s Maasai Mara, considered by many to be the most beautiful reserve on the continent. It features two intimate camps of only fifteen tented suites each, a private airfield and access to the Mara below.
In 6th place, Bateleur Camp by &Beyond is located in the forest at the foot of the Oloololo Escarpment (the edge of the Rift Valley) in Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve. Amidst the reserve’s amazing year-round animal concentration, including the great seasonal wildebeest migration, guests can enjoy an unparalleled wildlife experience.
In seventh place is Four Season Safari Lodge Serengeti, in the heart of Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park. Perched on a series of raised platforms and walkways, the lodge sits next to an animal watering hole, where a family of elephants can be seen stopping for their morning drink.
In 8th place, Ngala Safari Lodge &Beyond is a timeless safari lodge ideally situated on a private concession within the renowned Kruger National Park.
Located within South Africa’s largest and most famous game reserve in the world, Ngala Private Game Reserve not only offers one of the most incredible Big Five wildlife experiences in the world, but also an intimate experience with our exclusive rights of way over 14,700 hectares of wilderness.
