Five ideas for winter outings for the whole family this holiday season
Much awaited by young and old, December is a month of Christmas lights, decorations, gifts and family outings. While waiting for Santa Claus to come, here is a selection of activities that will delight families, and more.
Like a Sunday… at the Paris-Vincennes racecourse
Until February 26th, the Paris-Vincennes racecourse launches the Pleasure Sundays. This emblematic place offers various activities for families during the end of the year celebrations and until the arrival of spring, or almost. The program includes a visit to the stables where the little ones can dream of a future career as a jockey while watching the horses. In the meantime, they will be able to learn about ponies and leave with their mini-jockey diploma. Adults are not forgotten. They will be able to enjoy trotting races, both mounted and harnessed. The little extra of these festive Sundays? It is also possible to experience the races from the inside aboard the “bus suiveur”, a vehicle that follows the peloton on the track. And to top it all off, these activities are free.
Christmas at the Court of Versailles
Until January 1st, visitors will be able to stroll around thanks to the King’s Tour. This is not a simple guided tour of the apartments of the Sun King, but an extraordinary visit and show. When night falls, actors, dancers and musicians, all dressed in the most beautiful period costumes, invade the royal estate. Spectators can watch a typical dance ballet in the Salon d’Hercule or witness fencing duels in the famous Galerie des Glaces. And to the delight of children, a baroque Santa Claus will appear.
The Jardin des Plantes illuminated
If you want to have stars (and lights) in your eyes, the Jardin des Plantes is the ideal place until January 15, 2022. The opportunity to discover the smallest insects and beasts of the world, in XXL format. At nightfall, visitors will swing between millipedes, ants, luminous butterflies and other insects. In total, there are more than a hundred sculptures that occupy this route. And beyond this spectacular visual experience, this playful open-air exhibition teaches many things about these funny little creatures, such as their essential role in ecosystems.
The little swans at the Mogador theater
After a fantastic first season, the ballet Mon premier lac des cygnes, a version designed for young audiences, returns to the Mogador theater in Paris, until next March. This show is signed Karl Paquette, former star dancer of the Paris Opera. Despite some changes, it retains the original soul of this sumptuous classical ballet. The choreographic requirements remain the same, but to adapt to a young audience, it has been simplified into two acts of 40 minutes each. A voice-over also accompanies the show to help young spectators understand the fabulous love story between Odette and the young prince.
Traveling under a big top
Installed in Square Parodi, near the Porte Maillot, from December 21, 2022 to January 26, 2023, the troupe of the Cirque Romanès, the last Gypsy circus in the world, makes its comeback under the big top with a colorful show called The trapeze artist of angels. The fervent defenders of the fauna can be reassured, there will be no animals present during the performance. But we will be able to admire the acrobatic feats performed by Alexandra, the famous trapeze artist of the angels. A contortionist, a juggler and a tightrope walker will also give emotions to the public, to the rhythm of the Balkan gypsy music.
