Jacquemus reinvents Gae Aulenti’s chairs
Jacquemus launched the day before the opening of the Milan Furniture Fair a collection of lifestyle objects, the star of which is the re-edition with Exteta of the famous outdoor chair Locus Solus by Gae Aulenti.
After fashion, the objects…
The prolific Simon Porte Jacquemus is expanding its lifestyle universe with a new line of “delicate objects” and a collaboration with Italian outdoor furniture publisher Exteta in homage to the famous architect Gae Aulenti.
The highlight of this new line, sold online and in the Jacquemus boutique on Avenue Montaigne, is the revisited “re-edition” of “Locus Solus,” the first major collection of outdoor chairs ever imagined, created in 1964 by Gae Aulenti. Very comfortable, the original model had a chrome base and a red vinyl seat. In the Jacquemus X Exteta collection, the choice has been expanded to four models, two chairs, and two lounge chairs. These feature the same smooth white curved lines but are distinguished by a bright yellow and white striped or plain beige fabric.
A sunny art of living
Jacquemus, which has always cultivated a strongly southern (in this case, Provençal) DNA, naturally chose a partner that also celebrates a sunny art of living for this first foray into the furniture market.
“This collaboration with Exteta came about naturally and spontaneously. I have always dreamed of developing a furniture line… I’ve also been collecting Gae Aulenti’s vintage chairs for years, and the first time I discovered them in Jacques Deray’s film “La Piscine.” I added a little JACQUEMUS touch by opting for a yellow and white striped print inspired by the beach clubs of the 80s,” said the designer.
Jacquemus has also thought of the more limited budgets by offering a whole series of small objects: plates, trays, strawberry trays or plate holders, or leather vases in natural colors (ochre, brown…) inspired by his bags, hair clips, or…very stylish clothespins (from 120 euros anyway…), art books and rare photographs, etc.
Once again, the designer shows his mastery of communication codes by making this launch coincide with the Milan Furniture Fair, which takes place from April 18 to 23.
