A look back at the best performances at Coachella 2022
After three years of absence, the famous festival in the desert of California was back with a program that made the audience more than satisfied.
After a 2020 edition of Coachella was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic and chaotic attempts at reorganization in 2021, not allowing the festival to take place, it was back for two weekends of celebration and music.
No need for proof of vaccination, masks or social distancing. The mostly outdoor festival welcomes some 125,000 attendees a day from all over the U.S. but also from around the world.
Among the big names at this year’s festival: Megan Thee Stallion, Phoebe Bridgers and Doja Cat, French group L’Impératrice, superstar Stromae, and The Weeknd and Swedish House Mafia, who were added to the lineup at the last minute after Kanye West pulled out.
The Belgian artist Stromae, who had already participated in the festival 7 years ago, was back for a real show. Costumes, dances and scenography, everything had been worked with precision, but the desert wind caused some technical problems, which did not discourage the artist. Stromae sang many songs from his last album Multitudes but also the songs that made his success like Papaoutai or Formidable.
At only 20 years old, Billie Eilish was the youngest headliner of the festival. Expected by her many fans, she had already performed at Coachella, but on the “next big things” stage. In 2022, she headlined the festival and performed on the main stage. She actually took a moment to acknowledge that her meteoric rise from pop musician, from her bedroom to headlining one of the world’s biggest music events was a bit surreal “It’s so weird,” she told the audience.
During her performance, she was joined by several artists on stage: Khalid came to perform their duet “Lovely” and Damon Albarn, the singer of Gorillaz and Blur, sang with her “Getting Older“.
Harry Styles, too, was very expected. During more than 1h30, the artist has linked his most famous songs, like “Adore You” or “Golden“. But that’s not all, he also played live two exclusive tracks “Boyfriend” and “Late Night Talking” from his upcoming album “Harry’ House“. An additional surprise, he was joined by Shania Twain to cover together “Man, I Feel like a Woman“. The two stars, dressed in matching Gucci faux fur coats, also performed a cover of the boy band One Direction‘s single “What Makes You Beautiful“.
The French group l’Impératrice also impressed the audience on Saturday afternoon. With songs from their latest album “Tako Tsubo” the language barrier was not an issue, as the audience cheered each other during their performance. A success for the French group.
