Art Capital poses its works at the Grand Palais Éphémère
Art Capital, the largest contemporary artists’ fair in France, returns from February 15 to 19. For the occasion, more than 2,000 national and international artists will be gathered under the roof of the ephemeral Grand Palais.
More than a fair, Art Capital is THE largest gathering of contemporary artists in France for almost two decades. Each year it welcomes more than 40,000 visitors and exhibits thousands of artists from all over the world.
It will of course be open to the public, who will be able to discover diverse and varied works of artists such as sculptors, printmakers, painters, but also photographers. If you are in need of decoration inspiration, don’t miss this event.
Art Capital was born of a common desire: to unite the strength of the historic Salons of the Grand Palais to create a unifying event. Since its inception, it has brought together four Salons in one: Comparaisons, Drawing & Watercoloring, Independents and the Salon des Artistes Français, which is celebrating its 233rd anniversary this year.
Four Salons, four universes, but only one will
The Salon des Indépendants was created in 1884 by innovative and pioneering artists who left their mark on the art world with their brush strokes. Among them, Paul Cézanne, Paul Gauguin and Georges Seurat. Together, whether they were known or not, they claimed to be free to present their works to the public. It is a bit the precursor of the street art, whose motto is: art is accessible to all and for all!
The Salon des Artistes Français brings together works of artists from France for three centuries. According to its President, it is an event organized by artists, for artists. Each year, more than 600 contemporary visual artists who exhibit their works: painting, sculpture, architecture, engraving, but also photography or mosaic and digital art (recently).
Comparisons is the third Salon of Capital Art. As its name suggests, it was created to bring together all types of art, representative of current trends. In total, it has 31 groups, as diverse and eclectic as the Salon itself. Visitors will be able to discover or rediscover new artistic currents, artists or horizons and new techniques of creation. There is something for every taste and desire.
Finally, the Salon Dessin & peinture à l’eau. Created in 1954 by renowned painters such as Masson, Villon or Raymond-Martin, it is a bit like the place of the forgotten. Noting the absence of drawing exhibitions, these 20th century artists founded this Salon to show the world the different techniques used for this art on paper. Pencil, charcoal, pastel, or watercolor, enough to be inspired if you want to try a career as a painter-drawer.
A rich program
This year, works have been created especially for the occasion and some distinguished guests will be present like the famous cartoonist Enki Bilal, author of comics such as Bug, Coup de sang or The color of air. As a guest of honor, he will present about forty works in the colorful alleys of the Salon Dessin et Peinture à l’eau. A delegation of Polish artists will also be present within the walls of the Salon des Artistes français.
The objective of this annual artistic meeting is to highlight the trends of contemporary art, in all its forms. Among the exhibiting artists, visitors will be able to admire the masterpieces of Michèle Battut, Daniel Bergez, Dan Jacobson, Hervé Loilier and many others.
So, what are you waiting for to take your place?
