In Paris, but not only, the back-to-school exhibitions are having a blast! Color, history or photography, there will be something for everyone!

If the summer was not under the sign of the culture, the re-entry will be perhaps it! Indeed, many museums and galleries have selected artists of choice to appear in the program. The editorial staff has selected for you its 6 favorite exhibitions of the fall.

From September 7, 2022 to January 15, 2023, the Maison Européenne de la Photographie (MEP) will present the most important retrospective devoted to the Ukrainian photographer Boris Mikhailov, today considered one of the most influential contemporary artists in Eastern Europe. For more than 50 years, he has been developing an experimental photographic work around social and political subjects, on the borders of documentary photography, conceptual work, painting and performance.

Through January 22, 2023, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs honors the bold and inspiring work of Elsa Schiaparelli, whose inspiration was nurtured by a special relationship with artists in the Parisian avant-garde milieu of the 1920s and 1930s. “Shocking! The Surrealist Worlds of Elsa Schiaparelli” brings together some 520 works, including 272 costumes and fashion accessories, set against 248 paintings, sculptures, jewelry, perfume bottles, ceramics, posters and photographs signed by the greatest names of the period.

This major retrospective also highlights the legacy of Schiaparelli’s style with silhouettes interpreted by famous couturiers paying tribute to him, including Yves Saint Laurent, Azzedine Alaïa, John Galliano and Christian Lacroix.

The exhibition “Claude Monet – Joan Mitchell” proposed by the Fondation Louis-Vuitton, stages an unprecedented dialogue between the works of two exceptional artists: Claude Monet (1840-1926) and Joan Mitchell (1925-1992), who left their mark not only on their time, but on generations of painters.

“Claude Monet – Joan Mitchell Dialogue” and “Joan Mitchell Retrospective” allow us to see their singular perceptions of the same composite landscape, often expressed in particularly immersive formats.

Produced in collaboration with the Yves Klein Archives, this exhibition presents, for the first time in Aix-en-Provence, at the Hôtel de Caumont, some sixty works by the great artist from Nice from a new angle. By looking back at the artist’s family origins and his circle of friends, his workplace and his relationship with his models, the exhibition aims to highlight the material conditions of his work, the artist’s intellectual reflections, his spiritual dimension, as well as the humor often underlying the seriousness of his approach.

Alongside the most emblematic masterpieces, such as the “Monochromes” and the “Sponge Sculptures”, lesser-known works will be presented, as well as unpublished archives and unique objects from his studio collection. From October 28, 2022 to March 26, 2023.

After Bilbao, Canberra, Rotterdam, Liège, Lyon and Brussels, where it was a huge success, the traveling exhibition “Hyperrealism. Ceci n’est pas un corps” will stop at the Musée Maillol in an enriched and partly unpublished version, visible from September 8, 2022, to March 5, 2023. Hyperrealism is an artistic movement that appeared in the 1960s in the United States and whose techniques are explored by many contemporary artists.

The Palais Galliera celebrates Frida Kahlo, one of the most recognized and influential artists of the 20th century. Far from the clichés that surround her personality, the exhibition “Frida Kahlo, beyond appearances” invites visitors to enter the intimacy of the artist, and to understand how she built her identity through the way she presented and represented herself.

For the first time in France and in close collaboration with the Museo Frida Kahlo, the exhibition brings together more than 200 objects from Casa Azul, the house where Frida was born and raised. The exhibition will run from September 15, 2022 to March 5, 2023.

She has written lifestyle and beauty articles for Do it in Paris magazine and specializes in writing articles about luxury, art and fashion for Luxus Plus magazine.
