Dior and Bvlgari Houses unveil their high jewelry collections
On June 4 and 6, luxury brands Dior and Bvlgari both unveiled their fine jewelry collections in Taormina, Sicily and Paris, respectively. Let’s take a closer look at the exceptional pieces presented on these two occasions.
The Bvlgari collection “Eden, The Garden of Wonders”
The launch party for the Bvlgari high jewelry collection “Eden, The Garden of Wonders“, which took place in the City of Light, was attended by an array of international celebrities. Anne Hathaway, icon of the new campaign “Unexpected Wonders” with Zendaya (who was conspicuous by her absence yesterday), as well as Priyanka Chopra and Lalisa Manoban, the new ambassadors of the Italian brand, were present. They were also accompanied by Carla Bruni, Tina Kunakey, Vincent Cassel, Adele Exarchopoulos and François Civil, among others.
This new collection “Eden, The Garden of Wonders” shines by its creations of high jewelry that display multiple dazzling gems and all colors.
An ode to life and nature
As Bvlgari reveals on its Instagram account, the wonders of the collection are each as singular as the next, but each in its own way captures the essence of the Wonders that are born in the heart of the Garden of Eden.
From earrings in the shape of a peacock, to a necklace representing an imaginary flower of Eden, to earrings in the shape of a bunch of grapes, the precious pieces in this new collection all share a common theme: nature.
Impressive for the many precious stones it displays and breathtaking for its multicolored appearance, this masterpiece straight out of the Garden of Eden, the “Sapphire Flower Fantasy” necklace features a bewitching central sapphire cushion, surrounded by an exquisite array of rubies, emeralds and diamonds.
The second exceptional piece is a pair of earrings featuring the image of a royal peacock. Cherished by the Romans as a symbol of timeless beauty, the royal peacock is famous for its breathtaking feathers. And this pair of earrings was designed in the same color combination as this breathtaking bird: green and blue. The “Plumage Sapphire” earrings, as their name suggests, feature two midnight blue cabochon sapphires.
Among the many pieces that the “Eden, The Garden of Wonders” collection brings together, we told you about a Bvlgari tiara made in honor of the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, which is also part of this collection! This tiara, which can also be worn as a set, features a 63.44 carat Zambian emerald in the center with a lotus flower carved into it that took over 1,500 hours of work. A bouquet of smaller emeralds and diamonds surround this imposing stone.
A fashion show in the Sicilian Saint-Tropez to inaugurate “Dior Print”
More than 2000km away, the French haute-couture house Dior set foot in the Italian south, in Taormina, to unveil its new collection of high jewelry “Dior Print”.
To create this unique collection of highly precious jewelry pieces, Victoire De Castellane, the artistic director of Dior Joaillerie, was inspired by the Dior haute couture tradition.
The many guests at the house’s gala, which took place at the Four Seasons Hotel in Taormina on Saturday, June 4, were treated to the 137 wonderful “Dior Print” high quality pieces.
True to what the house knows best, Dior presented this high jewelry collection via a fashion show. Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior’s artistic director of women’s fashion, was in charge of creating the ivory-colored dresses. As for Victoire de Castellane, she imagined the 137 pieces of the collection and transposed the patterns of the emblematic house’s fabrics such as those with stripes, floral patterns, checks or tie-dye on high jewelry pieces.
“All of a sudden, the jewel takes on its full meaning because it is worn, because the light captures the gestures of the models, it is alive. Since we are a fashion house that makes jewelry, there is no reason not to combine the two. For me, it’s an obvious choice,” she said.
De Castellane was particularly inspired by the House’s previous collections, such as the 2018 Dior Dior Dior line, which explored lace, Gem Dior, Rose Dior, Tie & Dior, the 2020 collection focused on textile dye effects, and her most recent, Galons Dior, inspired by braids.
“I like to mix collections from different families because I think it also shows customers that they can live together,” she said afterward.
On the high jewelry side, the collection’s masterpiece necklace features floral prints and rainbow stripes of gemstones and comes in three colors of gold.
Other pieces are set with dazzling center stones, such as the “Dior Print Emerald” necklace, which features an 8.02-carat Madagascar lilac sapphire in its pistil. One ring, meanwhile, features a blue sapphire center stone, while others were made with diamonds and rubies. A Sri Lankan sapphire weighing nearly 22 carats and a Tanzanian spinel weighing more than 25 carats were also used to create several pieces in this collection.
Finally, an “abstract” necklace made entirely of sparkling diamonds is one of the highlights of this new high jewelry collection, which looks like the remains of fabric ribbons. An umpteenth touch in reminder of Castellane’s inspiration to create this line of jewelry.
