Discover the winners of the The Prix des Artisanes, initiated by Elle Magazine and LVMH
On October 14, the very first edition of the Prix des Artisanes took place, organized by Elle, Elle Décoration and Elle À Table magazines, with the support of the LVMH group. Portraits of the four winners of the competition.
The competition for the Prix des Artisanes rewards women artisans in the fields of fashion, design, palate and French heritage. These women with inspiring careers were judged by a jury composed of Morgane Tschiember, sculptor and president of the jury, Victoire de Castellane, artistic director of jewelry at Dior and Anne-Sophie Duroyon, General Manager of the association “la fabrique nomade” .
This edition gathered nearly 200 applications in the four categories and gave way to 12 finalists. After numerous debates, four prizes were awarded, with the following criteria: creative excellence, innovative spirit and willingness to transmit their know-how.
The awards ceremony took place in the atrium of the Louis Vuitton Foundation and the winners received a year of mentoring on entrepreneurship by Artisans d’Avenir as well as attentive support from the partner group, LVMH, in addition to media coverage in Elle magazines. Let’s get a look at the winners.
The prize for fashion professions goes to Janaïna Milheiro, a French woman born in Rio and a feather worker in Paris. After attending the Duperré School of Applied Arts and the Ensci, she learned embroidery and weaving and started working in the field in 2011. She quickly received orders for major luxury houses such as Dior, Martin Margiela or Valentino, for whom she weaves, embroiders and creates amazing textile effects. Her expertise is not limited to clothing: she also creates structures that decorate the windows of the largest department stores.
The Design Professions Prize was awarded to Manon Bouvier, from Lyon, who is fascinated by straw marquetry. She went through the Boulle design school, then did her training at Maonia, the studio founded by Marine Fouquet. In 2016, she decided to create her own workshop, Paelis to revive this craft around straw and create contemporary furniture and sculptures. In 2019, it is the consecration for Manon who wins the title of Best Worker of France.
The prize for heritage preservation was awarded to Isabelle Roché. A former petrochemical engineer, she changed her career path by taking over “La maison du pastel” in 2000. She focused on learning the gestures and recipes of her ancestor Henri Roché, a pharmacist and great lover of painting. Trained by the granddaughters of the creator, she is passionate about pastel and its countless possibilities, and wants to be the guardian of a know-how passed down from generation to generation.
Elise Bougy was awarded the prize of the Palate trades. She started biodynamic farming in Champagne, in her great-grandfather’s former wine estate in 2016. There she grows rare grapes and develops unexpected agreements with an eco-responsible philosophy that pleases and to which starred restaurants and expert cellars around the world say yes to.
