Tomorrow, June 21, the streets of Paris will come alive with intoxicating melodies and upbeat rhythms to celebrate the Fête de la Musique. This annual event, enjoyed by thousands of people across the country, offers a unique opportunity to share musical passion, discover new talent and vibrate to the sounds of a multitude of musical genres.
Born in 1982 on the initiative of the then French Minister of Culture, Jack Lang, the Fête de la Musique has become an unmissable tradition, marking the summer solstice with a musical explosion. Paris, as the cradle of culture and art, offers an exceptional range of musical experiences on this special evening. From emerging artists to established legends, from intimate concerts to open-air performances, the City of Light is transformed into a gigantic stage where all musical genres coexist harmoniously.
Midsommar and concerts at the Swedish Institute
The Swedish Institute has decided to pay tribute to its rich cultural heritage during the Fête de la Musique by celebrating Midsommar, a Swedish summer tradition. During this emblematic festival, participants adorn themselves with flower crowns, and sing and dance to folk tunes around a flower-pole. The festivities start at 5.30pm, in the garden of the Swedish Institute.
To liven up the evening, the Institute has lined up a varied musical program. Pop-folk artist Eskelina will open the ball, followed by minimalist indie rock duo 7ebra, made up of twins Inez and Ella. Finally, to round off the festivities in style, the talented EHLA will enchant the audience with her sensitive, catchy pop. To top it all off, participants will also have the opportunity to sample sweet and savoury Swedish treats, prepared with care by café FIKA and boutique Affären.
Electro evening at the Arab World Institute
The Institut du Monde Arabe will be hosting an exceptional evening of urban and electronic music. Omizs, a specialist in showcases and supercharged DJ sets, is in charge of the musical program. It will be marked by a fusion of Eastern and Western sounds, creating a unique musical encounter. Among the artists performing, we’ll be captivated by Saliah, Small X, Tawsen, and Dimeh-todo, each with a musical signature that resonates harmoniously with the cultural aura of the Arab World Institute.
The event kicks off at 7pm, on the emblematic forecourt of the Arab World Institute, located at 1 rue des Fossés Saint Bernard, in the 5th arrondissement of Paris. For further information, visit the Institut du monde arabe website: www.imarabe.org.
Journey to Italy under the Louvre pyramid
Klaus Mäkelä and the Orchestre de Paris return to the Louvre (Paris 1er) for the Fête de la Musique. Their concert will also mark the opening of the first edition of the Étés du Louvre, in the enchanting setting of the Pyramid, illuminated at nightfall. For this exceptional evening, over 2,000 free seats will be available on reservation.
The program includes a musical journey to Italy with three works by Puccini and Gabrieli, in a nod to the “Naples in Paris” exhibition. Audiences will also have the opportunity to discover other sonic horizons with Ligeti’s captivating composition “Atmosphères”, as well as the suite from Stravinsky’s “Firebird”.
Hip Hop Party in the 11th arrondissement
From 6pm, rue Alphonse Baudin (Paris 11) will be transformed into a veritable New York stage to celebrate 50 years of hip-hop culture at a special block party. MK2 turntables will be out on the sidewalks, and DJs will take control with their vinyl, while an MC will create a festive atmosphere that will leave no one indifferent. For one night, Paris will be transformed into the Bronx of the 1970s.
Get ready to immerse yourself in the vibrant world of hip-hop, with its catchy beats, talented dancers and community spirit. This block party will be an unforgettable experience, blending urban culture with the history of hip-hop.
The Ministry of Culture program in the gardens of the Palais-Royal
The French Ministry of Culture is offering a unique program of events in the magnificent gardens of the Palais-Royal, located at 2 place Colette in the 1st arrondissement of Paris. The festivities kick off with an open stage reserved for amateurs, from 1pm to 4:45pm. It’s the perfect opportunity to discover promising young talents who will express their passion for music.
Then, until 10pm, the evening continues with the presence of renowned professional musicians, with the Proquartet, from the Centre européen de musique de chambre, followed by rapper Eesah Yasuke, passionate about Japanese culture. Finally, young Franco-Belgian performer Mentissa brings a new dimension to the French chanson repertoire, bringing the evening to a fitting close.
Music and culinary delights at Le Bon Marché
Le Bon Marché (Paris 7) will be joining in the Fête de la Musique festivities from 9.15pm to 1am, combining music and gastronomic experience. Indeed, for this special occasion, the renowned Grande Épicerie de Paris will be offering a selection of culinary delights to delight the taste buds of participants.
A series of spellbinding concerts is planned, featuring Malik Djoudi, known for his melancholy electro-pop compositions. Aurélie Saada, member of the duo Brigitte, will also offer a captivating performance. Finally, artists Oete, Zaho de Sagazan and David Walters will join the evening, adding their unique musical touch to the event. The concerts are free of charge, but advance reservations are required.
