Furniture Fair: Philippe Starck invents a furniture family for Dior
The famous fashion house has entrusted the no less famous designer with the task of imagining its very first furniture collection. Inspired by the famous medallion chair dear to Christian Dior, it has just been presented at the Milan Furniture Fair.

At the Furniture Fair 2022, the first collaboration of Dior Maison with Philippe Starck had already been presented.
Medallion Chair
The famous designer revisited the Medaillon chair, a symbol of the Louis XVI style dear to Christian Dior, in his refined style. “Miss Dior,” his new version of the designer’s iconic piece of furniture, is a creation “with timeless elegance” in 100% aluminum, available with or without armrests and in different shades (black, pink copper, or gold), satin or polished.
A very contemporary vision of the chair with an oval medallion-shaped back was originally designed by the French carpenter Louis Delanois in 1769. Christian Dior himself adopted this symbol of French elegance, upholstered in an airy cane and toile de Jouy, to seat guests in his Paris boutique.
Furniture family
And it is from this base that Philippe Starck has invented a whole family of furniture for “Miss Dior.”
Also minimalist, in polished or lacquered aluminum, the Monsieur Dior armchair is the second pillar of this furniture collection.
This armchair “comes out of an eternal icon that is the icon of the French people, it is made in an unalterable material, we are in a historical, cultural, sentimental and even ecological accuracy,” said Afp Philippe Starck, the septuagenarian whose style does not age more than that of Dior.
Miss Dior and Mr. Dior, dressed in ecru curly fabrics or pink, black or fluorescent orange toile de Jouy, also have a whole host of brothers and sisters to populate their homes with style. Apart from small stools, they are essentially tables in many forms: bistro, low, side, or dining room.

Made in Italy

For its part, Christian Dior finally joins the list of many fashion houses to have diversified into furniture … Starting with the transalpine Armani, Fendi and Versace. But the very French Hermès, with its ever-prolific universe, had also presented its first line of contemporary furniture back in 2011 at the Furniture Fair, entrusting the reins to two renowned Italian designers, Enzo Mari, and Antoni Citterio.
