Karl Lagerfeld’s futuristic, organic flat to go on sale

On 26 March, the former Paris home of designer Karl Lagerfeld, who will die in 2019, will be auctioned off. Estimated at €5.3 million, the flat’s originality lies in its avant-garde design and its sublime view over the Seine and the Louvre.

The flat of the late fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld will be auctioned on 26 March 2023 at the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry, under the direction of Maître Bertrand Savoure of the Althémis notary office. Potential buyers who are unable to attend will still be able to take part in the auction over the Internet and by telephone.

A unique, well-placed flat in the capital

For around ten years before his death in 2019, the great couturier of Chanel, Fendi and his eponymous brand took up residence in a building dating from 1694, located in the 7th arrondissement, more precisely Quai Voltaire on Paris’s Left Bank.

On the third floor, the property offers uninterrupted views over the Seine and the buildings on the right bank, including the Louvre Museum and the Tuileries. A rare and privileged location in the heart of the French capital. In terms of style, this residence, which is worthy of a work of fantasy and has been completely refurbished by Karl Lagerfeld, is an ode to futuristic design. With its pared-back, organic lines, the flat features false white ceilings, grey concrete and resin floors and semi-opaque materials.

As you enter the 260 square metre home from another era, you’ll find a large 120 square metre living room overlooking three large windows with sublime panoramic views. This long space is surrounded by bookcases with metal shelves and sandblasted glass doors in shades of blue and green. The kitchen is distinguished by its all-grey stainless steel furniture, which could be a set from a space film.

At the end of a long corridor, the bedroom, with its 50 square metre dressing room, has a view over the courtyard, and is also lit by white lamps that some might find hard on the retina.

While this avant-garde flat stands in stark contrast to the baroque aesthetic of Karl Lagerfeld’s other homes, where period objects, antique works of art and furniture straight from the last few centuries were mixed together, it reflects all the designer’s aesthetic plurality. With its rich history, assertive style and sought-after location in Paris, this property will be offered at auction for a starting price of €5.3 million. Watch this space.
