Polo Ralph Lauren dives into the metaverse with Fortnite
The new Polo Stadium Ralph Lauren collection for Fortnite, available in virtual and physical versions in early November, is inspired by the world of motor racing and aviation.
After Balenciaga, Armani and Burberry, Ralph Lauren has now entered the metaverse, within the video game Fortnite (Epic Games). The American brand has developed a collection of clothing and accessories, available both on the Fortnite video game and in a physical version on its website.
“Ralph Lauren has always designed dreams and created new worlds. […] Our collaboration with Fortnite [offers] a revolutionary experience to a new community of gamers and next-generation consumers,” explains David Lauren, Ralph Lauren’s director of brand and innovation.
The House decided to take inspiration from its famous Stadium collection of 1992. Reinvented for the occasion, this sports line is the result of a work around Ralph Lauren polo shirts, based on the uniforms worn by American athletes in the 1920s and 1930s. “The history of the iconic “Polo by Ralph Lauren” design, combined with the powerful versatility of Unreal Engine and the inimitable style of Fortnite, has resulted in an inspired campaign and timeless looks that Fortnite players around the world are sure to love,” comments Adam Sussman, President of Epic Games.
The parts are beautifully translated into the game and form colourful motowear-inspired ensembles. Even the accessories have been thought through to the last detail. The inscription “Polo Stadium 1992”, present on all the pieces, is the leitmotiv of this collection, also used in the physical version on caps, polo shirts, hoodies, boots…
On 4 November, a global Fortnite tournament, the “Polo Stadium Cup”, will give participants the chance to win prizes, including collaborative outfits and accessories.
The Ralph Lauren x Fortnite physical clothing capsule has been available since November 2, exclusively on the Ralph Lauren website and the digital collection will be available for purchase in the Fortnite Item Shop from November 5.
