Stella McCartney presents a mushroom-like installation at the 60th Salone del Mobile in Milan

Until June 12 and on the occasion of the 60th Salone del Mobile in Milan, the exhibition “Future of Fashion: An innovation conversation with Stella McCartney” presents the latest innovations of the British designer.

In Milan, the highly anticipated Salone del Mobile takes place from June 7 to 12, at the Porta Nuova in Milan, one of the city’s six historic gates. It’s an opportunity for fashion brands to unveil their latest design collections and let their imagination run wild. The traveling installation of the English brand Stella McCartney, named “Future of Fashion: A conversation on innovation with Stella McCartney” was unveiled yesterday.

Launched for the first time at the COP26 United Nations climate conference in Glasgow, the 200-square-meter “Future of Fashion” exhibition references the brand’s Summer 2022 collection and campaign theme of mushrooms are the future of fashion and our planet. Launched in collaboration with Bank of America, it also showcases the brand’s first-ever partnerships in home décor.

The brand is collaborating with furniture manufacturer B&B Italia to reinterpret their iconic “Le Bambole” chair. Celebrating its 50th anniversary, it was originally designed by Mario Bellini in 1972 and has been reimagined with sustainable materials and upholstery featuring the hand-drawn Summer 2022 “Fungi Forest” print. Intended to reflect the future of furniture, the chair can be completely disassembled for recycling and reuse at the end of its life.

The mushroom print has also been reinterpreted as wallpaper by British luxury home decorating house Cole & Son. Made from a substrate derived from 79 percent renewable fibers and a manufacturing process that uses 30 percent less greenhouse gases than traditional non-woven wallcoverings, it will be available for sale later this year and decorates the installation space.

There is also a selection of vegan ready-to-wear and accessories made from Bolt Threads’ Mylo™️ leather, grown from mushroom roots, plant-based fibers like forest-friendly viscose, or repurposed materials made from waste.

Visitors can experience the beauty and magic of mushrooms in an immersive room, illuminated by towering sculptures made from recycled materials, with a musical backdrop composed by Cosmo Sheldrake using bioelectric sounds from plants and mushrooms.
