The Lamborghini Countach from The Wolf of Wall Street could fetch $2 million at auction

The Lamborghini Countach, the Lamborghini supercar driven by Leonardo DiCaprio in the film The Wolf of Wall Street, will be auctioned by Sotheby’s in December. It could fetch over 2 million euros.

Sports cars are the talk of the town, both on the road and on the silver screen. After James Bond and Back to the Future, The Wolf of Wall Street is now attracting the interest of auction houses.

The Lamborghini Countach featured in Martin Scorsese’s film The Wolf of Wall Street will soon be auctioned by Sotheby’s. A true automotive jewel, its sale could fetch around $2 million.

If you’ve seen the film, it’s impossible not to remember the scene in which this magnificent car appears. It’s the funniest and most unusual scene. Leonardo DiCaprio (Jordan Belfort in the film) struggles hard to get into his Lamborghini, while inebriated. The vehicle pops up several other times in the film, notably in certain scenes where it has been intentionally crushed. But the model to be auctioned off is, of course, the original, with no scratches whatsoever!

Between nostalgia and achievement

Aside from its auction date, this supercar is a very special one.

The Italian automaker made automotive history when it presented a prototype of the Countach at the 1971 Geneva International Motor Show. It went on to become one of the fastest, most powerful and most emblematic production sports cars of its time.

Between 1974 and 1990, more than 2,000 examples of the V12-powered supercar were produced.

The etymology of the name Countach comes from a Piedmontese slang expression meaning “fabulous”. It reflects industrialist Bertone’s astonishment at seeing the car out on the road for the first time.

The Countach 25th anniversary, which appears in the film, has clearly not aged a bit, and still makes as much of an impression as the first one, released in the 70s. Built during the model’s last three years of production, it is by far the most advanced version of the vehicle.

The latest innovations and a few improvements later, and here it is, ready for auction. From the big screen to the auction room, it’s just a short step, or a few kilometers.

This special model features a Bianco Polo exterior and Bianco interior, making it one of the brand’s 12 all-white versions.

It also boasts a very powerful engine: a 5.2-liter V12 that generates up to 449 horsepower. Thanks to what’s under the hood, it can go from 0 to 60 mph in 4 seconds.

It will be auctioned on December 8, as part of Sotheby’s annual Luxury Week event.

“The ‘Wolf’ Countach, perfectly embodies what we set out to achieve when we decided to hold a sale during Sotheby’s Luxury Week,” said Gord Duff, Global Head of Auctions at RM Sotheby’s .

“Scorsese, DiCaprio, Lamborghini and New York all form an incredible pedigree. The sale will feature other similar, unique, collectible cars with some degree of provenance, low mileage or unique specifications. Our team has excellent experience in running boutique sales like this, and we look forward to showcasing it during Luxury Week,” he added.

The starting price has not yet been announced, but the House expects this famous supercar to go for between $1.5 and $2 million. Get ready to spend as much, if not more, than the Wolf of Wall Street!
